Google Is Killing Its App Maker Service
Google is killing one of its less known services. The company’s App Maker tool which allowed businesses to make apps without knowing how to code is getting shut down.
The company announced today that it will be taking the plugs off App Maker starting this year. VentureBeat reports that Google is shutting down the app due to low usage.
Google announced today that App Maker is no longer under active development, but it will continue to receive bug fixes. From April 15, 2020, however, users will no longer be able to create new apps with App Maker. And on January 19, 2021, all App Maker apps will completely stop working.
The move comes just weeks after Google acquired AppSheet, a no-code application development platform. The company is actually recommending AppSheet as an alternative to App Maker. It’s not exactly clear how many users are affected by the move, but if your business built any apps with App Maker, you should probably start looking for an alternative before the apps stop working.
