Epic Saw Big Game Store Success in 2020
The Epic Game Store saw historic growth in 2020, the firm says, and now has over 30 million daily active players and over 160 million users on PC.
“As we look back at 2020 on the Epic Games Store, we wanted to take a moment to thank all of our partners who helped us bring joy to so many gamers around the world over the past year,” Epic writes in the announcement post. “Adapting to constantly changing challenges is no easy feat and we’re grateful for this community of developers, publishers, players, and creators.”
So here are the numbers. The total user base at the Epic Games Store is now over 160 million, with daily active users growing 192 percent in 2020 to 31.3 million. Monthly active users in December hit 56 million, up from 32 million the year before. The Epic Games Store community played games for 70 percent more hours in 2020 than the year before with a total playtime of 5.70 billion hours, compared to 3.35 billion hours in 2019.
The top five most popular titles in 2020 were Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Satisfactory, Fortnite, Snow Runner, and Godfall.
Epic also confirmed that it will continue its weekly free game giveaway during 2021, and that it gave away 103 free games in 2020, with players claiming almost 750 million free games last year. Epic is also working on several new features for its store, including wishlist improvements, an overall of the social features, achievements, and player profiles.
