I have been writing about Lockhart for since December 18^th of 2018 and while Microsoft hasn’t been talking at all about the console, bits of info confirming its existence have been showing up on occasion. And thanks to the latest release notes for the Microsoft Game Developer Kit, we have more evidence of its existence.

A user on Twitter who goes by @XB1_Hexdecimal posted up screenshots (one image is posted below) that include release notes from the June update to Microsoft’s Game Developer kit. In the documentation, you can clearly see the words Lockhart and Anaconda – Anaconda being the Xbox Series X console.

So what is LockhartProfiling? It is my understanding that this is a way for game developers to specifically target the performance characteristics of the lower-end console. Lockhart may be known as the Xbox Series S when it is formally announced in the coming weeks and it should feature lower performance than the Series X but also a lower price.

As it stands right now, this is further evidence that Lockhart is actually a console and not some codename vaporware. Microsoft could still cancel the hardware and never release the product if they deem that it may not be a good fit but considering that the product still exists in documentation released in June, is a good sign that things are still moving forward.

When will we hear all the details about the Series S? That’s not known yet but Microsoft is expected to host an event in July which would give them the opportunity to talk about the unannounced hardware.
