Tips and picks
Tip of the week: HD and lossless audio is coming, deal with it correctly
HD and lossless (and in one case, spatial) audio is going mainstream in 2021. Where to get it. Where you can’t get it. How to configure your devices properly for it. And why you probably don’t even need it.
App pick of the week: Windows 10 version 21H1
This is the fastest, easiest upgrade in the history of Windows.
Codename pick No. 1 of the week: Nickel
It’s almost time for the Windows/Azure engineering team to move to their next engineering semester. Cobalt is Jan.-June 2021. Next up: Nickel (July-December). Sun Valley is in the Cobalt semester, by the way. (And Win Server 2022 is actually an Iron release.) Will be interesting what comes out of Nickel… which will be in next year’s Windows releases…..
Codename pick 2 of the week: Cherry Hill
There are a lot of working pieces in the Sun Valley refresh. The “Cherry Hill” codename’s been floating around for a bit. Sounds like it may have to do with the Start Menu and/or the new Shell more broadly. So.. Is it named after Cherry Hill, NJ? Or.. Cherry Hill park in Idaho (where Sun Valley is), maybe?
Beer pick of the week: Jack’s Abby Post-Shift Pilsner
I am not a pilsner fan, but we’re moving into summer pilsner season. Pilsners and lagers are riding a trend wave among the craft beer community right now. If you want a readily available solid pilsner, check out Jack’s Abby Post Shift Pilsner. Bright, crisp and refreshing. Not very hoppy. Easy to drink more than just one.
