Google is today releasing Chrome 73 on Windows and Mac. The latest update to Chrome brings a number of improvements across both the platforms, but the major new features on the Mac.

Chrome 73 introduces the new dark mode for Chrome on the Mac by default. Google has been testing the new feature for a little while on both Windows and Mac, but today’s update brings it to the public and enables it by default. That means if you have the dark mode enabled on macOS Mojave, you will automatically see the new dark mode on Chrome. The new dark mode applies a darker color scheme throughout the browser, making it much easier on the eyes and a lot friendlier for those who aren’t a fan of light/white interfaces.

Chrome 73 also brings support for Progressive Web Apps to the Mac, making PWAs available on all platforms for the first time ever. PWAs on Mac work much like anywhere else, you are able to “install” PWAs so they can be opened as regular apps and use features like push notifications, etc. Google says now that PWAs are on all platforms, the company is looking to expand the functionality of PWAs to offer more features like access to file system, wake lock, etc.

Chrome 73 notably brings support for hardware media keys as well, that means you will now be able to use your hardware keys to control things like YouTube or SoundCloud on the web using your media keys. And if you are like me and listen to a lot of music on SoundCloud, this is going to be really useful.
