At MWC 2019, LG has announced a new 5G phone, much like most other Android phone makers. The company’s new V50 ThinQ is its first 5G phone that will be available in the coming months.

LG’s V50 ThinQ is much like the company’s existing V40, which means much of the design of the device is identical. LG did introduce a bunch of upgrades under the hood to support 5G and offer more power that is required for 5G, however. The device now comes with the Snapdragon 855 platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem, a larger 4,000mAh battery, and a new Vapor Chamber heat-dissipation system for better cooling. The device comes with a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision Display and has a thickness of 8.3mm which is a little thicker than the regular V40.

Oh, and, the device apparently has a glowing 5G logo on the back to let you know that it actually has 5G connectivity.

And then there is one more thing — LG is introducing its take on the foldable phone with an accessory that you can buy separately for the V50 ThinQ. The accessory adds a second 6.2-inch OLED display to the V50 ThinQ, allowing for foldable phone functionality and letting you use two apps at a time. You can only use the dual screen in two different angles — 104 and 180 degrees and uses the phone’s battery to power the display. It’s nothing like some of the other foldable phones we have seen at MWC this year, but it’s certainly an interesting take.

The V50 ThinQ will be available exclusively from Sprint in the United States, and it will later be available at Verizon. The device will also be available in some other areas, including some European countries, later this year. As for the Dual Screen accessory, you won’t be able to purchase it in the United States and it’s not exactly clear which specific regions the accessory will go on sale.
