Samsung made headlines with the launch of its Galaxy Fold device last year. Samsung obviously faced a lot of challenges with the launch of the original Galaxy Fold, with the company having to relaunch the device, fixing some of the major initial problems.

Today, Samsung is launching its second foldable phone ever. The company is announcing the new Galaxy Z Flip, the company’s newest foldable phone.

Galaxy Z Flip is significantly different from the regular Galaxy Fold. The device works like a flip phone, just like the new Motorola Razr. The new Galaxy Z Flip features a 6.7-inch screen with a 22:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2636×1080 pixels. More importantly, the display features Samsung’s Infinity Flex Display with Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass, which covers the display itself and apparently offers significantly better protection than the cover on the original Galaxy Fold.

There’s also a new Hideaway Hinge which is a core part of the folding device. “Galaxy Z Flip’s Hideaway Hinge is a work of engineering art. It’s backed by a dual CAM mechanism – small but sophisticatedly designed to ensure every flip and fold is smooth and stable,” the company said.

The device also features a secondary 1.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 300×112 pixels to tell the time, etc., on the outside.

Samsung is including the Snapdragon 855+, 8GB of RAM, and a 3300mAh battery on the Galaxy Z Flip as well. For the storage, you will get up to 256GB of internal storage. And for the cameras, there are two main 12MP cameras on the back, with the main sensor featuring an aperture of f/1.8, and an ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture offering 123-degree field-of-view.

Samsung says the UX of the camera app has been optimised for a hands-free selfie and vlogging experience. The company says the device is “perfect” forr shooting 16:9 Portrait Mode videos for YouTube uploads.

Galaxy Z Flip will be available in Mirror Black, Mirror Purple, and Mirror Gold (only in some countries). It’s also launching a fancy designer edition of the device by American designer Thom Browne.

The device will be available on Valentine’s day for $1,380.
